The EU heads of state and government, who met today in Brussels in the format of the European Council, condemned third countries for backing Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, and called on them to immediately cease any such direct or indirect support.
EU leaders, during a summit in Brussels, called on member states to strengthen restrictive measures against Russia to restrain its capabilities to wage a war of aggression, and in this context welcomed the adoption of the 17th package of EU sanctions against the aggressor state. At the same time, the final document of the summit contains no mention of the 18th package of sanctions proposed by the European Commission.
President Volodymyr Zelensky says the main targets of the 18th package of EU sanctions should include Russian oil, tanker fleet, banks, as well as all supply chains in arms production.
The leaders of states and governments of EU member states, meeting in Brussels, reaffirmed the European Union's unwavering position on the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, and its effective support for these principles, including broad political, financial, military, humanitarian, and diplomatic assistance.
